Departed Khon Kaen on the 0740 flight and headed out for Jomtien Beach via Bangkok. Flight departed a few minutes early and arrived about 5 minutes ahead of schedule. I called my wife and let her know that I had arrived safely and shortly thereafter my driver called and told me he was outside gate 2 waiting for me.
I have used Kob as a driver to Pattaya many times and he is very reliable and I can smoke in his vehicle so we don’t have to stop along the way.
Arrived at the Nirvana Boutique Hotel in Jomtien on Soi 4 at 1030 and 30 minutes later my buddies had arrived. I had just enough time to unpack and get my gear together for the hunt.
Tony lives nearby – about 30 minutes away and Steven is here on holiday. Tony was detecting with an old Whites model and Steven had an original Minelab Excalibur 1000 910 inch coil).
We walked the short distance to the beach and fanned out in separate areas. Tony hit the dry sand, Steven went immediately in the water, and I headed for the dry and wet sand.
Not many tourists on the beach. There were more vendors than tourists. Definitely low season and add to that the political riots that went on for two months previously.
Anyhow, we hunted for about 2 hours and then the skies got dark and we started to get some thunder and lightning. the skies opened up and we headed for a small restaurant to wait out the storm. Curry and cold beer were on tap for the hour long wait.
Headed back out after the storm for another two hours and lost track of my two hunting partners. Called it a day at 1600 and went to the room to relax.
Not a bad day – 74 Thai Baht, 75 Thai satang, one US dime, a Buddhist amulet and a kiddie ring.
