My wife decided that we would get away from the family for a couple days over New Years and found a resort about a one-hour drive from Khon Kaen in the city of Kranuan.

Castle Howchow is in the middle of nowhere and is a real jewel. Small cottages provide intimacy and they have a 1.5 million liter pool. Most of the cottages were occupied by an oil/gas rigging crew – so had the pool was mostly all to myself.

I talked to the owner (Howard – the “How” in Howchow) and received permission to detect a small, sandy area between the restaurant/bar and the pool. This is the resort’s beach.

Was out at 0600 and managed to find 93 baht (about $2.80 USD) and was reported by security to the owner. Howard promptly told security that I was looking for a bomb!!! Then he told security the truth. Also pulled in about 20 bottle caps (as expected).

Next hunt will be in Phuket – will be there for 4 days and hope to find some goodies.
